Asphalt milling and resurfacing in Miami and South Florida

Milling removes the worn top of the pavement so the new surface goes back at the right height: flush with the gutter, below the door thresholds, and draining where it should.

Overlaying without milling raises the road every time it is paved. Within a few cycles the curb disappears, water ponds against buildings and driveways, and the gutter stops carrying water. Cold milling takes off an exact depth, typically one to two inches for a resurfacing, more where the profile needs correcting, and leaves a textured surface the new asphalt bonds to.

Milling is also how we fix drainage on an existing lot without rebuilding it. Varying the milling depth lets us re-establish slope toward the inlets before the new surface goes down. We do this on municipal resurfacing programs for Palmetto Bay and Miami-Dade, and as a sub to primes on FDOT and county work.

Milled material is hauled off and recycled. On occupied sites we mill and pave the same section the same day so nothing sits open overnight.

What we do

Mill and resurface

Remove the worn surface, tack and pave a new surface course in one sequence.

Curb and gutter reveal

Mill along the gutter line so the new surface stays below the curb and water runs to the inlets.

Profile and drainage correction

Variable-depth milling to restore slope and stop ponding.

Butt joints and tie-ins

Milled transitions at driveways, aprons and existing pavement so there is no lip.

Utility and structure adjustment

Manholes, valve boxes and inlets adjusted to the new grade.

Milling for primes

Milling as a pay item for paving and utility primes, priced per square yard.

For GCs and public agencies

We price milling per FDOT and county pay items, coordinate maintenance of traffic and density testing, and run the mill and the paver as one crew so the schedule is ours to keep.

For HOAs, condos and property managers

For condo and HOA streets and commercial lots, milling keeps your curbs and drainage working instead of raising the pavement every time. We phase it so residents keep access.

Where we have done it

Milling and resurfacing on SW 92nd Avenue for the Village of Palmetto Bay, intersection resurfacing in Miami Beach for AGC Electric, and roughly $975,000 of milling and resurfacing on the West Little River project for MCM.

Questions we get asked

How deep do you mill?

For a standard resurfacing, typically 1 to 2 inches to match the new surface course. Profile correction and failed areas can require more.

Why not just pave over the old asphalt?

Every overlay raises the surface. Eventually the curb, gutters and door thresholds are lost and drainage fails. Milling keeps the finished height where it belongs.

How long is the street closed?

On a typical residential street or lot section, milling and paving happen the same day and it reopens once the asphalt cools.

What happens to the milled asphalt?

It is hauled to be recycled into new asphalt or used as base material.
