On public roadways, pavement markings are a pay item with a specification: thermoplastic thickness, retroreflectivity, bead rate and layout per the signing and marking plans. We have placed green bike lanes, crosswalks, stop bars and lane lines on municipal resurfacing projects and know what the inspector will measure.
On a parking lot, the layout is the job. A well-laid-out lot fits more cars, keeps the fire lane clear, and puts the ADA stalls and access aisles where the code says they go. We lay out from scratch on new lots and restripe existing ones, including blackout of old lines.
Because we are also the paving contractor, striping on our resurfacing jobs is scheduled and placed by the same company, with no gap between the new asphalt and the first line.
