Asphalt patch repairs in a PortMiami cargo area: failed pavement replaced with hot-mix asphalt and compacted while container truck traffic kept moving.
PortMiami pavement carries some of the heaviest loads in the county: loaded container chassis, yard tractors and constant turning traffic. Failed sections in this cargo-area truck lane were replaced with hot-mix asphalt patches across the full width of the lane, performed by Pimentel as a subcontractor to V Engineering.
The work was done in place with the port operating. Our crew placed and compacted the patches with a ride-on roller while container trucks used the adjacent lanes, with cones keeping traffic clear of the work.
Heavy, slow, turning trucks are hard on patches, which is why we cut square edges, compact fully and finish flush with the existing pavement so the joints stay tight under load.
